Lisvane Art Workshop was formed in May 1986 when a group of amateur artists, led by Peter Taylor (now our President), decided to meet on Tuesday afternoons at The Old School in Lisvane, Cardiff. Of the twelve original members, four are still active members of the Workshop. As well as Peter, these are David Ash, Jean Sheppard and Cynthia Walker.

The first exhibition was held in November 1986 in The Old School with 71 paintings. They were joined in the exhibition by members of the Lisvane Arts Society, which had closed in 1985. The Lisvane Arts Society had begun some years earlier in 1968, the fifteen original members meeting on Wednesday evenings, with lessons by well-known local artists, including Arthur Miller and Ester Granger. The Welsh Education Authority took over the classes in 1970 until it closed in 1985.

We still meet on Tuesday afternoons, but now in the Memorial Hall, Lisvane. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. We occasionally have demonstrations or a critique by a professional artist, but mostly, we just paint. For convenience, I have also added a new Artists' Index, which will take you straight to the chosen artist.

Our annual exhibition of members' work usually takes place in November.  The atmosphere is calm and happy, and you can meet friends and relax with a drink, with no pressure to buy - just enjoy the paintings. Please check the events page for details.

We now also have a permanent "rolling" exhibition in the Memorial Hall, where we have paintings displayed for sale. These are changed every three months. If you are interested in purchasing any of these paintings, please contact me by email or telephone (details below).
